CAREER READINESS

The Career Readiness Track is designed exclusively for individuals who desire to enhance their marketabiliy. The Career Readiness Program includes a course in preparation to receive a WIN certificate. Participating students are required to complete at least 30 hours of instructional time and complete a pre and post TABE assessment. 

A Career Readiness Assessment (WIN) is required to earn a national career readiness certificate. It measures the participant's ability to (a) read for information, (b) locate information and (c) use applied math skills.

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA

The test that is available in the state of SC whereby one might obtain his or her HSED is the GED. You can the GED in SC if you:

- Are at least 18 years old

- Are 16 or 17 years old and have received approval from school and state officials

- Have a valid state issued ID

- Are not enrolled in high school

The Pre-High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) track is designed for students in the beginning phases of working toward the HSED. These students typically receive intensive academic remediation in math, reading, writing, social studies and science. Students are required to meet 40 or more instructional hours in the Pre-HSED component of Adult Ed.

- HSED TRACK

The HSED track is designed for students working toward the HSED Examination. These students receive intensive academic remediation in math, reading, writing, social studies and science in preparation for the four-part GED exam or five-part TASC exam. Studens are required to meet 40 or more instructional hours in the HSED component of Adult Ed, unless they pre-TABE at the Low Adult Secondary level and then 30 hours of instruction is required for a post-TABE. 

- ACCELERATED HSED TRACK

This track is designed for self-motivated students who are able to work at a rapid pace toward the GED or TASC examination and score 11.0 or higher on all TABE tests at a D or A level. Once HSED students make academic gains as evidenced via TABE testing, students are encouraged to take the GEDReady or TASC Practice Exam, which indicates the potential level of readiness for the exam they choose to take.

Why Should One Take the GED Test?

If you did not finish high school, passing the GED could be your first step to a better future.

The GED Test is a comprehensive test that evaluates one's ability to read, write and compute. The GED Test includes Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. In order to pass the exam, the student must make a total score of 145 out of 200 possible points on each of the four sections.

HSED Practice Test measures an individual's readiness for the four official GED Tests:

- Reasoning Through the Language Arts

- Mathematical Reasoning

- Science

- Social Studies

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

For a South Carolina High School diploma, students are required to pass 24 units of coursework that meet a set of state-approved graduation requirements. Students entering the diploma program through Chester Adult Ed must have a minimum of 21 high school units that would apply towards a diploma as well as be fully unenrolled in any public school. 

The following courses require an End-of-Course Assessment to receive course credit:

- Algebra I

- English 2

- Biology I

- US History and Constitution
