WHAT IS ACCENT?
Activities for Capable Children with Exceptional Needs and Talents
ACCENT is a pullout enrichment program for gifted and talented students in third, fourth, and fifth grades. Students are eligible for ACCENT based on qualifying test scores. In ACCENT, students work on an advanced and accelerated curriculum, including ELA, Math, Logic/Critical Thinking, and Unit Studies in Science or Social Studies. Usually, ACCENT for third grade students is one half day per week. Fourth and fifth grade students go to ACCENT one full day each week. Due to Covid-19, ACCENT sessions will occur virtually during the 2020-2021 school year.ACCENT classes are taught by gifted and talented teachers, Susan Lalli and Jennifer Rosborough.

Rules and Expectations
RULES AND EXPECTATIONS
1. RESPECT is the rule, the rule is RESPECT. Students are expected to show respect to teachers, other students, and all classroom materials.
2. COOPERATION is key. Students will be expected to work together in partners or small groups frequently.
3. GRADES are important. Students in ACCENT are expected to maintain classroom grades of at least a "C" or better in each subject. Ideally, students should be on honor roll.
4. If a student is at school on ACCENT day, he/she is expected to attend ACCENT unless other arrangements have been made in advance. -

• a score at the 93rd national age percentile or higher on verbal/linguistic, quantitative/mathematical, nonverbal, and/or a composite of the threeStudents may be eligible for placement on the basis of their aptitude scores alone:
• a composite score at the 96th national age percentile or higher for students entering grades three through twelve

Project STAR, for students entering grades three through six: • primary verbal or nonverbal: 16 or higher for students entering grade three; 18 or higher for students entering grade four
• intermediate verbal: 16 or higher for students entering grade five; 18 or higher for students entering grade six
• intermediate nonverbal: 22 or higher for students entering grade five; 25 or higher for students entering grade six
Grade point average (GPA) in the academic disciplines, for students entering grades six through twelve:
• 3.75 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale (core content areas)
