Instructional Goals
Biology I College Prep is an introductory science course designed to familiarize the student with the major concepts of biological science: the cell; molecular basis of heredity; biological evolution; interdependence of organisms; matter, energy, and organization in living systems. This course provides numerous opportunities for students to develop science process skills, critical thinking, an appreciation for the nature of science through critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning experiences.

Course Schedule
In this course we will begin with an introduction to biology then move on to biochemistry. We will then focus on the study of the structure and function of the cell, the flow of energy in living systems, genetics and DNA, and on the molecular basis of heredity. In the second half of the course, we will first study Darwin’s observations and theories regarding evolution. We will end the semester examining the interrelationships among and between organisms and the environment, collectively called ecology. You will then review for and take your End of Course exam.
Policies And Procedures
General Rules
Students will adhere to all Chester High School rules and policies.
Students will follow all lab safety rules and procedures as discussed on the opening days of class.
Students should take care of all their needs (bathroom, health room, etc.) prior to coming to class.
When working in a group or with a partner, everyone is expected to give input. If it is reported that a student has continually refused to participate, the student will be removed from the lab and given an alternative assignment.
Behaviors that interrupt the learning process are not allowed:
Disrespect to teacher or peers ▪ Inappropriate remarks ▪ Talking out of turn ▪ Sleeping ▪ Throwing objects
