Introduction: Welcome to 7th grade Math!! I am excited to be your teacher! I am looking forward to this 2024-25 school year.

Course Description: The emphasis in this standards-based seventh-grade course is on algebraic thinking and on extending the understanding of the real number system to include integers, rational numbers, and irrational numbers. Students will investigate applications of number theory and will acquire skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. Students will solve applied problems by using one-step equations and inequalities, percentage, and proportional reasoning. Students will develop algebraic thinking by analyzing patterns to discover relationships, by representing information through symbolic, graphical, and tabular methods, and by identifying relationships that are linear. Throughout the course there is an emphasis on the process standards of problem-solving, communication, reasoning, representations, and connections. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will advance to Math 8.

By the end of seventh grade, your child should be able to:

● Apply decimal, fraction, and integer operations in solving up to two-step linear equations, equations, and inequalities

● Identify and graph ordered pairs in a rectangular coordinate system

● Use appropriate technology to connect statistics with other aspects of mathematics and other disciplines

● Use geometry tools and technology to inscribe polygons in circles and investigate similar and congruent figures

● Explore mathematical concepts of real and rational numbers and apply them in solving equations

● Apply proportions to solve problems with similar figures and scale drawings

● Analyze statistics and experimental and theoretical probability

Instructional Materials:

*Each student will know how to log in and find their textbook online at the beginning of the year.

Schoology: This will be the primary platform for posting assignments, administering assignments, quizzes, and tests.

Make up/Late work:

If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. It is important to get your work done as quickly as possible. Students have 2 weeks (10 school days) to turn in assignments. Each school day that the assignment is late will result in a 4-point deduction (not to exceed 40 points). If students turn in the assignment on or after the 10th day (2-week period), the highest grade that they can earn is a 60.

Grading Policy: 10-Point Uniform Grading Scale Approved by State Board of Education

Grading Scale:

A 100-90

B 89-80

C 79-70

D 69-60

F 59 or below

Grades will be based on the following:

Major Assessments (Tests, Projects, Quizzes): 60%

Minor Assessments (Classwork, Homework): 40%

eLearning: Students are required to complete assignments given on their eLearning days when they do not attend school. These assignments will count towards their overall grade.

Quizzes: Will be given after a new skill is taught and reviewed. Guided notes are given to help students prepare for quizzes.

Tests: Will be given at the end of each unit. I will give students notice in advance before a test.

Projects: Will be assigned accordingly with advance notice.

Attendance and Tardy Policy:

All rules stated in the Great Falls High student handbook will be followed. Remember, it is important that you attend class each day.
