The Chester County School District Board of Trustees unanimously voted on May 19, 2020, to select Dr. Antwon Sutton as the district’s new superintendent.
Dr. Sutton has 22 years of service in public education. Dr. Sutton began his career in Rock Hill, South Carolina, as a School Bus Driver and later worked as an elementary Math and Reading Specialist where he completed his educational field experience at the middle school level and student teaching at the high school level. After earning his master’s degree, Dr. Sutton began teaching in Clover, South Carolina, where he first taught as a Business Education Teacher at Clover High School. He completed his Superintendent Practicum in Clover before serving as Assistant Principal at Clover High and Middle Schools. As a Principal, Dr. Sutton led Sedgefield Middle School in Goose Creek, South Carolina, close to his hometown of McClellanville, South Carolina. He then moved to Columbia to become the Principal of Alcorn Middle School, aided in the school improving its SC PASS scores, and guided Alcorn to receive the Palmetto Silver School Award under his leadership. For the past four years, Dr. Sutton has been the Executive Director of Student Services in the Fort Mill School District where he provided support to school principals and oversaw the district’s Transportation, Safety, and Attendance/Student Enrollment departments.
Dr. Sutton has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Winthrop University; a Master of Arts in Teaching, also from Winthrop University; an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University; and an Educational Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership, also from South Carolina State University. Dr. Sutton also taught as an adjunct professor at York Technical College and Winthrop University.
“I am excited and honored to have been chosen as the new superintendent of Chester County School District and look forward to working collaboratively with the school board, staff, students, parents, and community to provide quality leadership,” Dr. Sutton said. “I’m committed to providing all students with an enriching educational experience that will assist them with becoming productive members of an ever-changing global society.”
