Coronavirus Information

  • COVID-19, more commonly known as the Coronavirus, has continued to spread overseas and there have now been confirmed or presumed cases in the United States. Government agencies are working to prevent or contain any cases identified in the U.S. Our district continues to monitor the situation, and we are working closely with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) and the South Carolina Department of Education to stay informed of any developments of confirmed cases in the state. We will implement recommendations and follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SC DHEC, and the South Carolina Department of Education as they are determined.

SC DHEC has announced it is investigating presumptive positive cases and positive cases of COVID-19 in South Carolina. As we continue to monitor developments, preventative measures from DHEC and the CDC have not changed our plans at this time.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact your health care provider or call the DHEC Care Line at 1-855-472-3432.

Residents who are showing symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath should call their personal doctor or healthcare provider. If an individual doesn’t have a primary care physician, MUSC Health is providing free telehealth screening to all South Carolinians. Anyone experiencing symptoms can visit and use the promo code COVID19 and be screened without having to leave your home.

The following information addresses questions you may have regarding school closures and planned field trips.

The district has been notified that Governor Henry McMaster has ordered the closing of all South Carolina schools beginning Monday, March 16 through the end of the month, with the possibility of extending the closure for a longer period. In accordance with this order the Chester County School District will be closed beginning Monday, March 16 for all students, staff and administration. This includes the cancellation of all afterschool activities and sports.

Starting tomorrow, March 16, 2020, assignments will begin being upload to a new Coronavirus Announcement tab on the district website. Instructional packets will be provided to students in K - 5. Information regarding that distribution of instructional packets will be available Monday. More information regarding meals being served in the community will be forthcoming once plans have been finalized.

This is a rapidly changing situation, so please check our website for updates. We will continue to communicate on our social media platforms and via email during the course of this closure.

We thank you for your patience as we finalize the educational plans and navigate the uncertainty of this situation. We hope everyone will remain safe and healthy over the coming weeks. Any new information will be announced as soon as it is available.

Attention Parents -If your child has medicine at the school and you need to pick it up, you may come on Monday, March 16 or Tuesday, March 17 from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM to pick up the medicine from the school nurse. Medicine will only be given to the parent/guardian and a photo ID must be shown to pick up.

Field Trips, Sports and Extra Curricular

In an abundance of caution, Chester County School District has decided to postpone all field trips, sports, and afterschool activities until further notice.

The district will continue to update our district website with information as it is made available along with useful links to factual resources about the virus and preventative measures. Thank you for helping us keep our students, staff and community safe and healthy!

As always we encourage everyone to practice proper handwashing, cover mouth and nose with tissue when coughing or sneezing, and children or staff should stay home if they are ill.
