The Board of Trustees for the Chester County School District met on September 22, 2025, and unanimously voted to appoint Mrs. Tammy Snipes as Interim Superintendent.
Board Chair Mrs. Kena Funderburk stated, “The Board is excited to have Mrs. Snipes as our Interim Superintendent. Her proven leadership and deep knowledge of our District will be invaluable as we transition and continue in this school year. We trust that the District will stay on its path to success, and we anticipate great things under her guidance. It is critical that we have a steady hand leading us as we seek to fill the Superintendent position permanently.”
Mrs. Snipes commented: “I am humbled by the opportunity to step into this role at such a crucial time. Having served in the District for many years, I know the strengths of our students, staff, and community. I thank Board Chair Funderburk and the entire School Board for their confidence in my leadership, and I look forward to continuing the important work we are doing together for the CCSD family.”
Mrs. Tammy Snipes comes to the position of Interim Superintendent of Chester County Schools following a lifelong career in this District. Over the course of 29 years in public education, she has been a teacher, district-level instructional coordinator, and administrator. She was the principal of Lewisville High School for six years until her retirement in 2023. During the spring of the last school year, when Great Falls Elementary needed a fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Snipes did not hesitate to step back into the classroom, so that the students of that community would not lose valuable instructional time. She currently serves her community as a volunteer teacher in the Greater Great Falls Wednesday Night Kids Club and is active in leading the youth of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
As a lifelong resident of Chester County and proud graduate of the Chester County School system, she chose to return home after graduating from Winthrop University in 1994 to begin her career. With a heart to pursue learning, she continued her education with a Master’s degree in Early Childhood, Library Media, and Administration from the University of South Carolina. She also completed a Specialist degree from Winthrop University, which resulted in superintendent certification.
As Interim Superintendent, Mrs. Snipes is committed to providing steady, decisive leadership during this critical transitional period. With a proven track record of success and deep-rooted experience within the district, she is fully prepared to lead with confidence and continuity while the Board begins the search for a permanent superintendent.
