Alumni Spotlight: Carrie Pearson

The path to educational success takes many forms and is often described as traditional or non-traditional.

As we celebrate Adult Education Week, let's look at a success story that some might consider non-traditional, but one that has had a lasting impact.

Carrie Pearson, a Chester County School District Adult Education alumna, took a different educational path than the one her children are currently following as students in Chester County School District. She took advantage of the opportunities offered through Adult Education programs across South Carolina.

Recently, Pearson, who graduated from the Adult Education program in 2020, shared that her children were the primary motivation for returning to complete her education. Reflecting on becoming a single mother at the age of 15, she said her desire to provide more opportunities for her children was one of the key factors that led her to enroll in the program.

She also had the personal goals she wanted to achieve. Not only did she want more out of life for herself, but she had always dreamed of working in the medical field.

Goal setting is a practice many people embrace, and achieving those goals can have a profound impact. For Pearson, accomplishing her goals has "impacted my life drastically." One of the most significant changes has been the quality time she is able to spend with her children. She has also gained a rewarding career and greater financial stability.

Pearson, now a Registered Radiologic Technologist and Certified Radiology Administrator, has built a career that she thoroughly enjoys. Her responsibilities include performing X-rays, conducting CT scans and fluoroscopy procedures, and assisting with imaging during surgical procedures.

The personal attention and support she received through the Adult Education program were among the factors she found most helpful in achieving her goals. The time invested by staff, along with the resources, supplies, and encouragement they provided, played a significant role in her educational journey.

Her message to anyone considering enrolling in an Adult Education program is simple: "Do it!" No matter your circumstances, whether you're happy, sad, or mad, "just do it."
